Why I'm Running
Hi everyone! My name is Maddie Hamada and I am from West Hempstead. I graduated from HANC last year and am now spending my gap year in Machon Maayan. I am super excited to say that I will be running in the Jerusalem Marathon in March with Team Butterfly! Team Butterfly is something that is very special to me and close to my heart as it was created by my cousin David Beiss. My cousin was born with EB, and there is currently no cure for it. Even though EB has been difficult for my cousin, with never-ending and relentless pain and using a wheelchair to get around, he has never let it stop him from living life to the fullest. He doesn't let this prevent him from achieving what he wants. David has played little league baseball, high school hockey, and ran marathons. The words "Can’t Do" are not part of his vocabulary. This is why my cousin is a role model for me. He shows me how to appreciate the life you are given and to make the most of your situation. David amazes me with his positivity and humorous way of approaching all of life’s challenges. I am running for my cousin. I am running for all those afflicted with this disease. I am running to save lives and help find a cure.
I need YOUR help and support in order to reach our goal of creating an EB free world where children born with EB can live long, happy, healthy, and pain-free lives. Will you be a part of the cure and help save the lives of thousands of children affected by EB? Because the cost of doing nothing is too great.
Thank you all so much for your love and support!
